From swimming and skiing to sledding and skating, there are so many ways to spend a family winter day in Radium Hot Springs.
Here are a few ideas to make the most of your next visit.
Splash and swim
One of the biggest draws of Radium is the namesake Radium Hot Springs pools. A hot pool nestled in snow-covered cliffs and a cold pool the kids can splash in make for a fun activity. Frozen eyelashes and hair add to the ambiance!
Cross country skiing, snowshoeing, and snow biking
Spend an incredible day enjoying all the activities Nipika Mountain Resort offers: nearly 50km of groomed cross country ski trails, 30km of fat bike trails, additional snowshoe trails, a pond for skating, and Mt. Sledmore for sledding!
The trails are varied in terrain, making it perfect for all ages and abilities, with mountain and river views. Pack lunches and extra snacks to enjoy at one of the many scenic benches or while warming up in the Day Lodge.
The resort also rents out cross country skis, boots, and poles for all ages; fat bikes and helmets for youth and adults; and snowshoes for all ages. Nipika is 35 minutes from Radium, bordering Kootenay National Park.
Sledding, skating, and smores
Legend’s Field, in the heart of Radium, boasts a quintessential outdoor rink, toboggan hill, and firepits.
The large rink has beautiful mountain views in daytime and large floodlights once it is dark, making for a great place to skate day or night. Bring the sleds and slide down the hill, speeding to see who makes it the furthest. Warm up by one of the three firepits in between activities. And don’t forget the smores ingredients!
Far Out Gear Rentals, on Radium’s Main Street, has skates and snow tubes for rent.
