Something’s Brewing in Radium!

By Tourism Radium on July 23, 2021

Radium Brewing officially opened on Saturday, June 12 to many enthusiastic customers. The highly-anticipated brewery is the first of its kind in Radium Hot Springs.

Brewery owners Stephen Gale and Jacob Houghton were ecstatic to open their doors.

“Our passion is making beer,” says Gale. “We pride ourselves on community and making beer in an environmentally-friendly way.”

The entire building was designed to be net zero, meaning it produces as much energy as it uses over the course of a year. Local company STW Cutting Edge Carpentry built a highly energy efficient space.

“The goal is to become a net zero brewery once our solar panels are up and running,” says Gale. “Beer will be 100% produced with renewable energy.”

Head brewer Houghton currently makes nine different styles of beer with six on tap at a time. They get their barley, hops, and yeast from a B.C. company, with the goal of staying as local as possible.

“We make the beer in small batches,” explains Houghton. “We want to have fun brewing trying different styles and recipes.”

In addition to the four vessels that make approximately 350L of beer at a time, they also have a test vessel used to try new recipes. Gale and Houghton encourage beer lovers to share ideas and recommend recipes. If it works out, money earned from the customer-created beer will be donated to a local non-profit.

“Community is important to us, and we hope to be a become the loungeroom of Radium,” says Gale.

With a large patio outdoors, stone fireplace indoors, and plans for game and trivia nights, Radium Brewing will be a great gathering place in any season.

The brewery serves snacks but encourages customers to support other local businesses while here by getting takeout and bringing it in to the brewery.

“We are about family and community and creating a welcoming environment for all to enjoy,” concludes Gale. “We’d love for you to join us for a pint!”

Radium Brewing is located at 7537 Main Street East, open Wednesday – Monday. Find hours and more information on their social media pages.
