22 Things to do in Radium Hot Springs this Winter

Winter is here and it is the perfect time to explore the Village of Radium! Radium Hot Springs is the gateway to your winter getaway. The Village is perfectly situated to explore nearby national parks, skating trails, and ski areas.

1. Explore Nordic Country Ski Trails

Cross-country skiing is a great way to get outside and see the mountains! Radium is surrounded by groomed trail systems to spend the day at. Tour the trails at Nipika Mountain Resort, Panorama Mountain Resort, or the Toby Creek Nordic Trail System (home to the Lake Windermere Whiteway).

2. Skate on the World’s Longest Skating Path

Lake Windermere is home to the World’s Longest Skating Path! The Lake Windermere Whiteway criss-crosses the frozen lake and offers fantastic skating. Start skating at Kinsmen Beach in Invermere and go for as long as you’d like.

3. Soak in the Hot Springs pools

The Radium Hot Springs pools are even more beautiful in the winter! Warm up from frosty winter adventures with a dip in the Radium Hot Springs pools surrounded by the snowy rockwall.

4. Lace Up Your Skates

Spend the day at a local skating rink! Check out Radium’s new skating rink in the center of town and pick up a game of shinny. Or, head out to Nipika Mountain Resort and lace up your skates to enjoy their skating pond.

5. Taste Local Distilleries and Breweries

Indulge in a tasting session at a local brewery or distillery! Radium Brewing serves up flights and pints on tap, or head south into Invermere to experience Taynton Bay Spirits distillery or Arrowhead Brewing.

6. Embrace Your Inner Child

Play on the toboggan hills in the Village! Radium’s best hill is located in Legend’s Field in the center of town. Pack along your toboggan and enjoy the new firepits in Legend’s Field.

7. Explore the Local Shops

Take a stroll down Radium’s Main Street and check out stores like the Old Tyme Candy Shoppe, Funky Junk Stained Glass & More, Big Horn Café, and more.

8. Embark on a Snowy Walk

The Sinclair Creek Trail turns into a stunning winter paradise in the colder months. Take a stroll down this easy trail and take a look at the interpretive signage along the way to learn about the local flora & fauna.

9. Take a Day Trip to One of the Surrounding Ski Areas

The Village of Radium is the perfect spot for ski adventures! Pick your favourite hill to explore, or use Radium as your gateway to explore multiple hills on your stay. Panorama Mountain Resort, Fairmont Hot Springs Resort, and Kicking Horse Mountain Resort are all great choices for a nearby powder day.

10. Winter Wildlife Viewing

The Bighorn Sheep are often spotted around the Village during the winter months! Take a drive around town and watch the sheep graze at their favourite spots, including the Springs Golf Course and the Redstreak Campground Road.

11. Take a Snowmobile Tour to a Mountaintop

Get a rush of exhilarating adventure by taking a tour by snowmobile! Reach new heights and get an amazing view of the Valley.

Who says camping has to come to an end when the snow flies? Head to Radius Retreat for a glamping experience you won’t forget! These hike-in yurts heat up nicely with provided firewood to make for a cozy winter’s eve.

13. Explore the Snowy Sinclair Canyon

The Sinclair Canyon is even more stunning in the winter! Visit the Sinclair Canyon viewpoint accessible from just inside Kootenay National Park, or grab snowshoes and explore the Juniper/Sinclair Creek Loop Trail.

Create something in the cool weather! Check out stained glass classes at Funky Junk Stained Glass & More and guided painting classes at Black Star Studios in Invermere. Or, check out the stores to find a local treasure!

A dusting of snow creates beautiful views in Kootenay National Park! Explore the trails by using grippers and poles or renting a pair of snowshoes. Make sure to keep an eye on trail conditions before you head out.

The Village of Radium has so many great restaurants, it is hard to decide which to try first! Choose from delicious German-Austrian cuisine, classic pub fare, or Mexican favourites.

Fat biking is the most fun you can have on two wheels in the winter! Check out groomed trails at Nipika Mountain Resort and Panorama Mountain Resort, or head out for a self-guided tour on the frozen Lake Windermere or trails around Radium.
